Can someone explain to me the difference between Fink, MacPorts, and Homebrew. I need a top level understanding of what each one does and what the actual advantages of one vs. the other are. I know there are terse point-by-point lists this out there for this question, but I would really like it if someone could explain to me exactly what these things are doing.Keep in mind that I have only the most cursory notion of what's going on when I "apt-get" something on a Linux box. Like, "sure Debian is out there doing something, providing some kind of compiled something or other for me and putting it somewhere. OK, I guess that's good because now I can fire up the SSH server I didn't have before." As someone who is not a developer and doesn't have a degree in computer science, I feel like my knowledge on these subjects are reasonably intermediate in some small regions and "complete moron" in most others.
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
